Healing Arts Massage Therapy

Elke Kriegel

Elke is a registered massage therapist with the College of Massage Therapists of Ontario and the Massage Therapist Association of Alberta.

Elke grew up in Edmonton in a fairly sports minded family. She participated in numerous sports including triathlons, track and road cycling and her main competitive sport; cross-country skiing. It was through her background as a competitive skier that Elke was introduced to Massage Therapy. After retiring from skiing, Elke decided to pursue a career in massage. She moved to Toronto, Ontario and attended an intense 2-year (2200 hour) program at Sutherland-Chan School of Massage. At the school, Elke had the opportunity to work with a wide variety of patients. These included seniors, those with M.S. and Parkinsons, pregnant women and numerous athletes at sports events. Two outreaches she particularly enjoyed were at the Guelph General Hospital on the perinatal floor and the Guelph University Sports Injuries Clinic, working together with the physiotherapists . Elke also took elective courses in infant massage instruction, labour support and sports massage. She took her manual lymph drainage (MLD) training at the Vodder School of North America in Victoria, and did a one month placement at the Vodder clinic in Austria working with Lymphedema patients. Elke took her Thai Massage training at both ITM and the Old Medicine Hospital in Chaing Mai, Thailand.

Elke incorporates many different elements into each treatment depending on her client's conditions. She may include a clinical assessment or various forms of hydrotherapy, rhythmic mobilizations, joint play, trigger point therapy or MLD.

In her free time, Elke enjoys doing yoga, meditation and reading. Her true passion, however, is travelling. She has travelled extensively throughout South East Asia, Nepal and India. Elke was also in Europe, working in Italy and learning the language. Future travel plans include Tibet.
